Qt is a cross-platform application and UI framework. Toradex is a partner of The Qt Company, the entity behind Qt technology. The Qt Company offers Qt for Device Creation (formerly Qt Enterprise Embedded) a fully-integrated solution, based on embedded Linux or Android, to get started immediately with Qt development on Toradex modules.

Qt for Device Creation includes pre-built embedded Linux images for Colibri VF50/VF61, Colibri iMX6 and Apalis iMX6 modules (Boot to Qt images). Customers can get the pre-built Linux image and the associated tooling through the Qt installer for a 30-day free evaluation by directly downloading Qt for Device Creation from qt.io.

As of now, pre-built images are available for the mentioned modules only. However, the Boot to Qt stack can be made to run on all our modules. If you are interested in Qt for Device Creation offerings on other modules, please contact The Qt Company.

The image is based on the open source licences Qt code base, but has a number of additional benefits valued in commercial development projects, such as

  • Immediate Prototyping with the pre-built Boot to Qt software stack
  • Value-Add components: Qt Quick Enterprise Controls, Qt Virtual Keyboard, Qt Charts, Qt Data Visualization

  • Beautiful, High-Performing, Modern User-Interfaces, for instance using Qt Quick 2:
    • Rendered using OpenGL ES 2.0
    • Rendered using Qt Quick 2D Renderer non-GPU (e.g. Colibri VF50/VF61, Colibri iMX7)

  • Ultimately leading to shorter Time-to-Market

After successful registration, customers will receive an email with the easy-to-use Qt online installer and access details for the Qt Account support center. Please refer to the Qt Documentation preparing hardware chapter for guidelines on how to flash the Qt demo image on the supported Toradex modules.

Hardware Requirements for the pre-built images:

  • Colibri VF50/VF61 with Colibri carrier board
  • Colibri iMX6 module with Colibri carrier board
  • Apalis iMX6 module with Apalis carrier board
  • SD Card (at least 512MB size)
