Verdin Family Specification
Introduction
The Verdin Family Specification received an update in 2020, affecting Verdin products which were in sample state. In order to have the latest version of the specification implemented by all Verdin products, Toradex released updated versions of the affected Verdin products.
Verdin Family Specification
The Verdin Family Specification describes the key electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics of Verdin products, in addition to their typical interfaces, related signal definitions and pin assignments.
1st Gen. Verdin Products
1st gen. Verdin products are the Verdin products implementing the previous (first) version of the Verdin Family Specification:
- Verdin iMX8M Mini V1.0B
- Verdin Development Board V1.0B
- Dahlia V1.0B
- Dahlia V1.0C
- Verdin DSI to HDMI Adapter V1.0B
- Verdin DSI to LVDS Adapter V1.0C
2nd Gen. Verdin Products
2nd gen. Verdin products are the Verdin products implementing the latest version of the Verdin Family Specification:
- Verdin iMX8M Plus V1.0B and newer
- Verdin iMX8M Mini V1.1A and newer
- Verdin AM62 - All Versions
- Verdin Development Board V1.1A and newer
- Dahlia V1.1A and newer
- Yavia - All Versions
- Mallow - All Versions
- Verdin DSI to HDMI Adapter V1.1A and newer
- Verdin DSI to LVDS Adapter V1.1A and newer
Future Verdin products and product versions will implement the latest version of the Verdin Family Specification. To ensure that custom Verdin carrier board designs are fully compatible with the latest version of the Verdin Family Specification (and upcoming Verdin products), please refer to the Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide. The versions >= V0.91 of the Design Guide reflect the latest state of the Verdin Family Specification. We encourage our customers to upgrade to the latest module and carrier board versions when those become available.
Specification Changes
The changes of the Verdin Family Specifications are summarized in the table below.
Change | Description |
---|---|
Power control signal states during RESET | We will differentiate between cold and warm reset cycles. Reset methods supported by Verdin modules will be documented in the respective module datasheets. Reset methods will determine the states of Verdin's power control signals during the RESET cycle. See the Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide , version >= 0.92, Chapter "Power Management", section "Module Power States" for more information. |
Behaviour of the SLEEP_MOCI# power control signal | SLEEP_MOCI# will be Push-pull. It will be enabled by software after power-up and not during the power-up sequence. See the Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide , version >= 0.92, Chapter "Power Management", section "General Power Sequences" for more information. |
Behaviour of the FORCE_OFF_MOCI# power control signal | FORCE_OFF_MOCI# will be Open Drain (instead of Push-pull). See Errata HAR-5754 for more information. |
Behaviour of the RESET_MICO# power control signal | If the CTRL_RESET_MICO# is low, the module will keep in reset mode. This allows the carrier board to prolong the reset cycle. See the Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide , version >= 0.92, Chapter "Power Management", section "General Power Sequences" for more information. |
Verdin DSI display adapter connector | Upcoming Verdin evaluation carrier boards and Verdin DSI display adapters will feature Samtec LSS-130-03-L-DV-A connectors. |
Verdin DSI display adapter GPIO assignments | The GPIO assignments related to various Verdin DSI display adapters have been optimized. |
SoM edge connector and stand-offs' PCB land pattern requirements | The land pattern requirements for custom carrier boards related to the SoM edge connector and the stand-offs have been updated. |
Height of 2x standoffs on carrier boards | The height of 2x standoffs (out of a total of 4x standoffs) fixing the optional Verdin Industrial Heatsink to carrier boards has changed. See the Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide , version >= 1.0, Chapter "Mechanical and Thermal Consideration", section "Connector and Standoff Land Pattern Requirements" for more information. |
Ethernet PHY status LED signal names and assignments in the Verdin pinout | The positions of the Link and Activity status indicator LED signal pins have been swapped in the Verdin pinout and the pins have been renamed. Pin 235 is now called ETH_1_LED_1 and is used as Activity status indication on Verdin carrier boards. Pin 237 is now called ETH_1_LED_2 and is used as Link status indication on Verdin carrier boards. See the Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide , version >= 1.0, Chapter "Interfaces", section "Media Dependent Ethernet Signals" for more information. |
Compatibility of Verdin Products
Please note that software support for 1st gen. Verdin products has been dropped starting from:
- BSP Layers and Reference Images for Yocto Project (hereinafter: BSP) 5.2.0 Quarterly Release
- TorizonCore 5.2.0-devel-202104 Monthly Release
- Toradex Easy Installer 5.3.0 Release.
1st gen. Verdin products remain supported in:
- BSP 5.1.0 Quarterly Release
- TorizonCore 5.1.0 Quarterly Release
- Toradex Easy Installer 2.0b7 Beta Release
Software support for 2nd gen. Verdin products has been introduced with:
- BSP 5.2.0 Quarterly Release
- TorizonCore 5.2.0-devel-202104 Monthly Release
- Easy Installer 5.3.0 Release
The Verdin iMX8M Mini V1.1A is also supported by the BSP and TorizonCore 5.1.0 Quarterly Release, but only in combination with 1st gen. Verdin carrier boards and DSI display adapters.
The following table lists the Verdin SoMs, carrier boards, and DSI display adapters compatible with each other. The supporting BSP releases are listed as well.
Product combinations not listed in the table are not compatible with each other and/or are not supported. More information on the various issues can be found in the errata of the related products or in the Errata/Known issues sections of the related Developer Website product pages.
