e-con Systems provides a user manual with comprehensive instructions to make the camera work. In this article, we summarize some of those steps for a quick reference, but you should not skip reading the e-con Systems documentation:
Tip: in the link above, you will also find the camera datasheet and the schematics for the adapter board for Ixora, ACC-IXORA-WTB-ADP, among other documents.
The kit works out-of-the-box with the following computer on modules:
Toradex and e-con Systems are working to also support the following computer on modules:
Any Toradex carrier board that supports the MIPI CSI-2 interface connects to the camera kit out-of-the-box, hardware-wise:
Note: support was added from the BSP version 5.0.0+devel-202008 onwards, a.k.a. August monthly build.
The camera works both with the Toradex BSP Layers and Reference Images for Yocto Project and Torizon. The camera device driver and device tree are integrated into the Toradex BSP Layers and the binaries are deployed to the reference images. Using them is easy:
Stop U_Boot and set the correct device tree:
> setenv fdtfile fsl-imx8qm-apalis-v1.1-eval-ar0521.dtb > saveenv > reset
On the Linux terminal, run a Gstreamer pipeline:
$ gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src device='/dev/video4' ! video/x-raw,format=RGB16,width=1920,height=1080,framerate=30/1 ! waylandsink -v
For troubleshooting, you can verify that the camera driver is starting correctly:
$ dmesg | grep ar0 [ 7.045228] ar0521 5-0042: Current Firmware Version - (1150CU96RKV1901110d381894XXXXXXX) [ 11.646248] mx8-img-md: Registered sensor subdevice: ar0521 5-0042 (1) [ 11.750804] mx8-img-md: created link [ar0521 5-0042] => [mxc-mipi-csi2.1]
