Toradex Flasher for Raw Images
Introduction
The Toradex Flasher, also known as the Toradex raw flashing tool, flashes WIC images (raw disk images generated by the Yocto Project) onto Toradex System-on-Modules (SoMs).
The tool is built from source using the meta-toradex-flasher Yocto Project layer.
Toradex Easy Installer (Tezi) is the recommended flashing method when a module can boot it, including through the recovery mode procedure. The raw flashing tool is an alternative for modules closed for secure boot where Tezi is no longer available, and can also be used on open modules.
The raw flashing tool is in early access and has no versioned releases.
Security Considerations
On NXP-based modules, the raw flashing tool uses Serial Download Protocol (SDP) and Fastboot. SDP must remain enabled to flash modules closed for secure boot, increasing the attack surface.
Make sure to evaluate this security risk before closing a module for secure boot. For more information, refer to Install Secure Boot Image on Devices Based on NXP i.MX SoCs.
